My friend Chantelle writes about her reaction to the death of Michael Jackson on her blog. While jdbrecords will be on break for a bit, feel free to share your thoughts on Jackson here.

imperfect angel

Mariah released the album cover image for Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel today. Thoughts? She tweets: The reason I chose to use 3 images for the cover is cos there are a lot of different emotions and stories revealed on this album.

creepshow

The Puss caterpillar is both amazing and terrifying.

The 'fur' of the larva contains venomous spines that cause extremely painful reactions in human skin upon contact. The reactions are sometimes localized to the affected area but are often very severe, radiating up a limb and causing burning, swelling, nausea, headache, abdominal distress, rashes, blisters, and sometimes chest pain, numbness, or difficulty breathing.

zoe money

Jezebel exposes the pricetag of Rachel Zoe's must-haves for the summer.

I am eagerly awaiting the second season of her show!

just the ten of us

The Academy just announced that there will be ten nominees for Best Picture instead of five. This hasn't happened since circa 1939: the Golden Age of Hollywood. Hopefully this means foreign and independent films will get some more notice.

Here are my choices from last year's race:

Frost/Nixon
Frozen River
Happy Go Lucky
Milk
Rachel Getting Married
The Reader
Waltz with Bashir
The Visitor
Wendy and Lucy
The Wrestler

What are yours?

friday the 13th nes

Friday the 13th is a frustrating video game I was never able to do well in. This is all you get for winning.

yes we still can

The New York Times wrote a sobering editorial on the Obama administration's stance on LGBT rights.

I am still hopeful Obama will enact change but LGBT groups are becoming increasingly restless, especially since Pride month is nearing its end.

the girl & the robot

Royksopp & Robyn finally release a video for "The Girl & the Robot." I think it's the best single of '09 so far, even if the video clip below is underwhelming.

actor out of work

I love this St. Vincent video.

good deeds

In an upset, Creigh Deeds wins the Democratic nomination for Governor in VA.

I was scared Terry McAuliffe was going to win. He is fresh off of ruining Hillary's campaign and would have had a tough time beating Bob McDonnell.

I am much more hopeful about Deeds.

The Washington Post notes the importance of the race here. Do good deeds and help keep VA a blue-governed state by donating here.

Thank you Emory for the lovely photograph.

roommates

“They put me with the cute guy. Distracting! He’s the one guy I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type — except that he has a wife. I mean he’s open-minded and liberal, but he’s definitely 100% straight.” -Adam Lambert

worthless

Upon the news of GM, I thought this song from The Brave Little Toaster would be appropriate. This could be the saddest song from an animated film ever.

picture taking

Jezebel posted a funny clip of Julia Louis-Dreyfus meeting Michelle Obama.

a little patience

Politico has an interesting article on LGBT groups impatience with the President. I am still an avid supporter and see that there are many great challenges in this time. I hope Obama will help throw out the idiotic and blatantly discriminatory Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. However, I agree with Obama that, for now, marriage should be a state by state issue. I believe the movement is gaining more ground and momentum this way. It's also something difficult for the conservatives to argue against since it isn't nationally implemented. If Obama were to decide today that gay marriage be recognized federally, I worry that it would be easily overturned by a future administration--especially because so much of the population continues to be ignorant about homosexuality and the issue is still so controversial.

Here's a clip from an interview with Brian Williams which aired Wednesday night.

gooby trap

This year's unintentionally creepiest film is Gooby. I like his scarf. I couldn't stop laughing at the trailer. It looks so bad!
